Summer Time Treat: High Protein ROOT BEER Float!

Summer is here and a great way to beat the heat is to kick back and enjoy a delicious Ice Cold Root Beer Float.

But I’m not talking about the regular Root Beer Floats that you’re used to having as a kid.

No, No, No…

In this video I’m going to share a killer recipe that I just tried today for making healthy sugar-free & fat-free Root Beer Floats that are also high in protein!

This is all you have to do:

– Pour 1 cup of Diet Root Beer (i.e. sugar free root beer) in the blender.
– Add in 2 scoops of vanilla whey protein powder.
– Blend this up until the protein powder is dissolved.
– Stop the blender and add in about 6-8 ice cubes.
– Blend it all up until it’s nice a creamy.

Pour this mixture into a glass, filling it about 3/4 full. Then top up the rest of the glass with more Diet Root Beer. This makes enough for 2 servings.

That’s it!

It tastes just like having vanilla ice cream mixed in with your Root Beer, but all the calories are coming from whey protein without any of the sugar and fat that you’d get with a regular root beer float.

Here are the nutritional facts for you to compare the differences.

Regular A&W Root Beer Float:
Calories: 640
Fat: 10 grams
Carbs: 136 grams

Protein: 4 grams

Lee’s High Protein Diet Root Beer Float:
Calories: 135

this video just dills my pickle.thanks lee.

  • I have to give credit where credit is due. My better half Trish came up with this recipe idea. Now she did make several experimental batches that didn’t go over so well, but this simple recipe of Diet Root Beer, Protein Powder, and Ice worked really well.

    Enjoy 🙂

what is ROOT BEER ? is that what we australians call sarsaparilla? or is it some thing completytly differant

  • Colin

I guess UK Root Beer is different to US Root Beer lol!!

I tried this recipe and it exploded my blender and covered my kitchen in globby root beer protein powder with shards of ice! What was left in the blender was just a thick vomit-looking curdled protein powder gloop with ice lol!

If anyone tries this at home – DONT use fizzy drinks!!

    Hey Lee,

What are your thoughts on soy protein?

I’ve heard that soy causes an increase in estrogen hormone(which could hinder muscle development). Would like to know if this stuff is good for guys.

    Many thanks

    Cheers,

  • Beefcake!!!

    Colin,

    ha me too!!!
    Colin,

  • Beefcake!!!

Shit blew up in my kitchen, prob gotta let it sit for a while, instead just throw in your shaker cup with whisk ball and blend the ice first or just use cold water. ANother great tasting one is Dr.Pepper with vanilla protein.

  • Just google search root beer. It’s very common in North America, but not so much in other parts of the world.

Do it like I did in the video. Slowly blend in the protein powder. Then add in the ice a few cubes at a time. If you dump it all in at once and blend on high you are in for a mess!

Avoid soy protein at all costs. As a man you don’t need any more estrogen floating around your system. There will be trace amounts of soy in a lot of foods you eat, but don’t go out of your way to eat soy products like soy protein, soy milk, tofu, etc. Stick to whey protein as your main protein powder supplement.

LOL your freakin awesome Lee. but doesn’t the diet root beer contain aspartame/phenylalanine though? the chemical poison created by the pentagon that can cause mental retardation, brain damage, seizures and other problems. The recipe is great but I hate these chemicals

  • Mark

This recipe is great! Tonight I substituted diet orange soda for the root beer which was equally delicious (like an orange creamsicle)!

  • Johnny

Could this be done with some milk added in as well??

I’ve never tried it with milk myself, but you can experiment 😉
