As 2009 draws to a close it’s nice to look back and see what you’ve accomplished over the past year and set some goals for what you want to achieve in the coming year…
2009 has been a really good year for me, in fact it was the most successful year ever for www.LeeHayward.com and this is despite a down economy. This just goes to show that we really are in control of our own lives and we don’t have to fall victim to the crap that goes on around us. We can grab the bull by the horns and make it happen!
Some of the major things that I’ve really focused on over the past year was putting out a ton of valuable muscle building and fat loss information via video. In fact my YouTube Channel now has over 135+ videos and most of them were added within the last year.
I’ve also been doing the weekly live Total Fitness Bodybuilding Talk Show for over a year now. This has been a huge success and a great way for me to interact with my followers. It’s the next best thing to hanging out and chatting in person!
Now while all the videos and talk shows are great in terms of helping people like you get in your best shape ever by getting top quality training and nutritional information. They also represent a huge jump for me in my personal growth as well. You see I’m naturally a very shy person and just a few years ago the thought of speaking in public or doing a live video scared the living sh!t out of me! (I’m not kidding)
But I’ve worked on that part of myself a lot by simply biting the bullet and doing the videos, doing the talk shows, etc. I’ve also been attending Toastmasters for a year and a half now. Toastmasters is a club where people get together to practice public speaking by giving speeches and performing various speaking leadership roles during the meetings. If you are looking for a great way to improve your confidence, speaking skills, etc. than I highly recommend them. Just google up “Toastmasters” to find a club in your area.
Some other successes I’ve had during 2009 were writing 2 books “Your First Bodybuilding Competition” and “Blast Your Biceps”. Both of which are getting awesome reviews. I have to say that these are by far my best muscle building and fat loss programs yet. There is a ton of killer stuff included in these packages and it’s all based on real world experience. Not fluff and filler like a lot of so called “bodybuilding programs”.
And recently I revamped the www.LeeHayward.com website (a much needed upgrade if I do say so myself). We were long overdue for a website makeover and I’m very pleased with it thus far.
Now 2009 wasn’t all rosy… One big disappointment was with losing our old Total Fitness Bodybuilding Message Board. This was a forum that had over 5 years worth of content and several thousand members which my website hosting company pretty much just wiped off the face of the Internet. The software was old and instead of giving me a heads up they just deleted the whole friggen thing.
I went through all the jiggs and the reels of trying to get it restored to no avail. But rather then getting upset over this, I’m simply going to go full speed ahead and create a brand new interactive Total Fitness Bodybuilding membership site with a discussion forum as well as providing special “member only” content and special “member only” coaching programs. That’s something you can look forward to seeing added to the site in early 2010.
Another goal of mine is to return to the bodybuilding competition stage and compete in the 2010 Atlantic Canadian Bodybuilding Championships in my best contest shape ever! I’m super pumped about this and I’ll be tracking my entire contest prep and posting my progress here on my blog.
I’m also working on creating a new training DVD set showing the exact workouts, nutrition plan, supplements, etc. that I’m using to get in ripped contest shape!
So that’s an overview of what I’ve done this past year and some of my goals for 2010…
How about you? What are some of your goals that you’d like to achieve?
Please post your goals in the comment section below! Publishing your goals for others to see will get the wheels turning towards making your goals a reality.
So go for it and post your goals!
Id like to see at least 100 people lay it on the line and share their goals below, let’s kick some ass and make 2010 our best year ever!
all the best,
Lee Hayward

What’s your main goal for 2010…?

Chase Money

My main goal for 2010 regarding training is to skyrocket my strenght, to be the best armwrestler in my County, also to get rid of the last 25 pounds of fat that distrurb me even since January 2009!
luigi

Lower my BF% to 8% and gain muscle mass in the process. 2010 is going to be a great year all the way around, so expect success in everything I do and I wish you all the same! π

I’m aiming for 500 lb deadlift and 300 bench prior to my 50th birthday in July. This gets me back to my high school/college fitness levels, with low BP, pulse and cholesterol to match. I’m a retired cop with one heart attack in my past so I’m very happy to be able to say that. I’m most of the way there and I’m just starting the Coan Phillipi deadlift plan to get me the rest of the way. My shoulders in particular have responded very well to your many pieces of advice. All the best for 2010.

Glad to here that the forums will be back and sorry to here the reason they disappeared.

To trim off a couple pesky lbs of body fat and see my core lifts (squat, bench press, deadlift, overhead press, pendlay rows) see big gains, especially the squat/deadlift/rows. Trying to make sure to get a full-rounded body instead of just focusing on upper body. Also want to be able to do 15 dips and chin-ups by summer.
joe
I just want to get out of back pain first after a failed surgery this year then get back to lifting.
Hameed Bhatti
Improve the core lifts (deadlift, squat, bench, OHP) from my current numbers (350, 240, 165,115) to (400, 275, 200, 140) by Dec 2010.
Improving functional has always been my first priority and is still my first priority.
Austin aka Juggernaut
1. My main goal is to improve my bench press from 215 pounds to 250 pounds by the end of the year.
2. Also I would like to add 10 pounds of muscle, I currently weigh 164 pounds.
3. I currently lift 115 pounds for 5 reps and 120 for 3 reps on the Military Press, not sure what my max is, but I would like to be able to press 135 pounds for three reps by the end of the year.
Austin aka Juggernaut
Oh yeah I forgot, The Bench Press is my favorite exercise so I focus my workouts on it. But my triceps are not able to handle the weight that my chest can. I hope to bring my triceps up to par with my chest.
leehayward
Good stuff, keep em coming!
One thing to keep in mind when setting your goals is to make them measurable. So rather then just saying you want to get bigger, leaner, stronger, etc. actually state how much and by when. This will help make your goals more powerful and help move you closer towards achieving them.
Jeff

After a pretty decent recovery from my second hip replacement in 2009, now I have two, the weight used in my workouts has been going up and my workouts also have improved in agility. I’m going to continue to take that as far as it will go. I’m leaving enough time to play a little too. π
If you would like, you can check my stats here.

There are probably lots of axioms worth invoking for 2010. I think the following should do nicely. In the old days when sailors climbed precarious, moving rigging to set the sails, they quietly recited. – “One hand for the ship and one for yourself.”
Best to all in 2010 and beyond. – Jim

My bodybuilding goals for 2010 are:
1) To compete in my 2nd Natural Bodybuilding show on April 24, 2010 at 160 lbs of ripped muscle and place 2nd or 1st in the Masters 40+ class – (my 1st contest on Nov 7, 2009 – I was 164 lbs ripped and took 3rd place out of 9) – giving myself 16 weeks for this show, losing 2 lbs fat per week. I should be ripped with 3-4 weeks to go so I can let my skin tighten up alot more than last time.
2) To build 7.5 lbs of lean muscle from April – Dec (I figure I can put on 2.5 lbs of lean muscle per 3 months realistically)
3) To compete in a Natural Bodybuilding contest once a year – every November starting in 2011 BUT only having to diet for the show for 8-10 weeks (12 weeks MAX, not 16-20 like before) each time – then build lean muscle in the “off-season” at a clip of 2.5 lbs per 3 months
TRogers
Oh yeah, final goal is after April BB Show, to increase my Bench Press, Squats, and Deadlifts to 300 lbs or more from current levels of 225 lb Bench, 225 lb Squat, 245 lb Deadlifts. (Without reinjuring my low back disc)

Hi Lee,
First, thanks for all of the great tips/information that you share! I especially enjoy watching the YouTube videos which demonstrate proper form/technique – I’m a visual learner.
I’m 47 and six months past right rotator cuff surgery, so my first goal is total rehabilitation. I’d like to be able to get back to benching my body weight (210 lbs). Second, I’d like to lose the fat and have a 34″ waist (currently 36″ – 38″).
Thanks again for the help!
