Hey Lee you mentioned something called the active recovery portion of cardio… is there such a thing as active recovery during the workout of strength training? Or is an entire strength training workout dedicated to “active recovery’ whatever that means…

Active recovery means doing easy exercise that helps speed up your recovery.

To give you an example, lets say you did a hard weight training leg workout and your legs are sore the next day. To help speed up your recovery and relieve some of the muscle soreness you could so some light exercise; like going for a walk.

Walking would be a means of “active recovery” because you are keeping yourself active, but it’s not going to break your muscles down (like high intensity weight training). Light active recovery exercise helps improve blood flow, circulation, and actually speeds up your recovery more so then if you did no exercise at all.

So easy to moderate intensity cardio counts as active recovery exercise, and stretching is also another great form of active recovery exercise.

This is why a lot of beginner workout programs will have people alternating doing strength training one day (high intensity exercise), with cardio training the next day (active recovery exercise). This can provide the best of both worlds by improving strength & conditioning and also speeding up your recovery rate at the same time.

Ive already watched this video on youtube but still i liked it. As i said before, i find swimming the best cardio cus most cardios i find extremely boring. E.g. running is really bland. Jogging is pretty bland too. Biking is a good cardio like in your video. And works out your quads too if your going up a steep hill 🙂

But i have to say swimming is probably the most fun. And it apparantly works out your whole body.

Thing is some guy keeps replying to my comments saying swimming isnt a cardio. So i may be wrong :/

    Still love it though.

  • How ‘re doing Lee? u ‘re sure doing a great job.One question;how do i get cinnamon caps, spices etc? It caught my inquisition in your last mail.

Hey Lee, some muscle head personal trainer at my gym told me that cardio isn’t needed to lose body fat and achieve a lower body fat percentage. He strictly lives by a no cardio and all diet routine. This dude is shredded and says when he’s training for a show he has a very precise diet that gets him down to the desired body fat percentage. Now I know I wouldn’t feel adequate by just relying on my diet and not doing some form of cardio, being high intensity or low. He also went on to say if I did start running as a form of my cardio I would be losing fat but would also be burning off muscle, especially in my legs. I feel stupid asking you this but Ive been bouncing back and fourth between my body building friends and hearing to not do cardio from the 2009 Mr. Iowa is hard to not agree with. Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks Lee.

I know some guys who have gotten ripped without doing cardio, but they are generally naturally lean people to begin with (i.e. they started with more of an ectomorph body type).

However, most bodybuilders will include cardio in their training to get ripped. I myself average at least 1 hour of cardio per day when training for a bodybuilding competition and it works really well for me.

The “no cardio” guys tend to be the exception rather then the rule.

Cardio is only one piece of the puzzle, your diet is the number one factor that will help you lose bodyfat and get visible abs. I cover diet in more detail in the Extreme Fat Loss Program at:
