The Real Purpose Of Bodybuilding – Becoming The Best Version Of YOU

I’ve got a question for you…

Why Do You Go To The Gym and Workout?

What’s The REAL Reason Behind It?

Most likely you want to build muscle and/or lose fat, get in better shape, get stronger, look better, and all that stuff.

But ultimately I think the real reason for bodybuilding is to become the best version of YOU.

Note: if you are using an iPad or can’t see the embedded video clip above,
then you can watch it right on my YouTube Channel by Clicking Here

My goal with this video is to get you to take a step back and realize that there is A LOT more going on when you go to the gym than simply building muscle. You’re building your character as well.

Developing Self Confidence…

Bodybuilding is a great way to improve your self confidence. When I was a teenager I was small and shy. That’s what attracted me to bodybuilding in the first place. I used it to help me come out of my shell, gain self confidence, and feel better about myself physically. As my body got bigger and stronger, I started to feel better about myself as a person.

Another personal development tool that I’ve been a huge advocate of in recent years is Toastmasters. If you’ve never heard of it before, Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organization that helps people improve their public speaking and leadership. Through Toastmasters you can attend a structured meeting every week and work on developing your public speaking skills in a small and supportive group.

This has been a HUGE help to me. Before Toastmasters I was very shy and never felt comfortable speaking up and publicly expressing my opinions. And that was after 15+ years of bodybuilding training. In fact, all of the YouTube videos that I’ve have came about from me developing my voice and gaining speaking confidence through Toastmasters.

Strong Body + Strong Mind = Success

So if I were to offer my best advice to anyone who wants to develop themselves personally, maximize their chances for success, and ultimately become the best version of YOU. It would be to practice bodybuilding to develop yourself physically AND to join a Toastmasters club to develop your speaking voice and gain self confidence.

The combination of developing a STRONG BODY and STRONG CHARACTER will give you the best of both worlds and provide you with the tools you need to succeed in life.

all the best,

I’ve been retired for 21/2 years and started lifting seriously during that time. I can say it has become one of my passions. I have dropped bodyfat and added considerable muscle. I am more confident and secure in who I am.

As an ex smoker and major shoulder surgery I used the gym to rehab and to get back in shape. After quitting smoking I went from 170 to about 235 in 4 months time and I wasn’t to happy about that. After 3 years I’m at 185 and feel great , at 48 years old I’m not expecting miracles but it does give me a lot of confidence in myself. You’re right it’s not all about the body but it does give you some self gratification and I feel good about myself and whom I am. Thanks for your videos and teachings it keeps me going with no plans on quitting.

I’m a mechanic, and I’ve always been skinny. Being a skinny mechanic is really hard because you lack the strength needed for the job. So body building has really helped me to be better at my job. I also work as part time supervisor in my workshop and no longer being really skinny has had a huge change in the level of respect that I get from my work mates and customers while I’m in charge. I feel like my intelligence has increased since I’ve been lifting… giving up alcohol might have helped with that too

Practice speaking up and speaking in public is the only way to improve. Toastmasters is a great place to practice this. Just like how you go to the gym to strengthen your muscles, you can go to Toastmasters to strengthen your speaking skills. I’ve posted up a video that explains what it’s all about at:

Hey great post.. everyone wants a good body from age 10 children to youth a perfect body shape. best muscles on the body that help you in creating a great personality it gives you confidence.

  • It’s so true…
I remember back in the old days when physical education was made mandatory for all students in school. Granted it was usually only 2 days per week, but we had to do it. Now it’s an optional thing. I think daily exercise should be just as important to a child’s education as reading, writing, math, science, etc.

  • Spot on! Cheers Lee.

What the hell is on your head? Is that a turtle shell?

  • Great post, Bodybuilding not only helps you to stay fit, but also to stay confident.
