If you spend anytime in the gym around bodybuilders and fitness competitors you are bound to hear them complaining at some point or another about how they hate doing “Boring Cardio”…
And when you ask what kinds of cardio they are doing, more often then not you’ll hear the usual… treadmill, stationary bike, stepper, elliptical, etc… All done while in a stuffy old cardio room staring at the wall or if you are “really lucky” you maybe able to watch a television that’s on mute while doing your cardio. It’s no wonder people complain that doing cardio is boring, especially if that’s what they are doing for their cardio workouts!

In my case, I only use indoor machine cardio as a last resort when the weather outside is absolutely shitty (i.e. pouring down rain, freezing cold, snow storm, etc.)
But for the most part my cardio workouts are done outside in the fresh air and I really enjoy them and actually look forward to doing them!
To give you an example, just watch the quick video below to see a Fun Cardio Workout that I did yesterday…

If you want a lower body cardio workout on the water, try a paddle boat. It’s like pedaling a bicycle uphill.

We went kayaking at Mission Bay in San Diego a couple weeks ago and it was awesome. Not just beautiful out there but great cardio workout. Went all the way across the bay and back.
Today did some mountain biking, not fast stuff but very technical and challenging. Talk about working your stabilizer muscles and your heart at the same time! Whoo!

What a great idea! I work out indoors a lot, and when the weather’s good I like cycling – but that’s mostly lower body work. I had not thought of kayaking to switch the focus to upper body. I’ll start that in the spring.
Thanks.

Devanand
Hi,
I am Devanand. I am in India. My height is 6.2 and I weigh 82 kilos and I workout 5 to 6 days a week. I have two questions for you. I have been working for a year and a half now. When I started I weighed 59 kilos and in a year I gained 23 kilos (lean muscles). But after this point I could not gain muscle mass even though I slug it out at the gym and worse because I am used to eating more proteins I got some flab in my abs. What should I do to gain more muscle. Even though I weigh 82 kilos I cant flaunt my muscles because I still look lean. Recently I have started taking whey protein and glutamine. Please edify me with what I should do to gather mass even though the details given by me are inadequate.

beautiful scenery! Most certainly going to break up the boring cardio, but unfortunately in the city sometimes outdoor exercise can be just as miserable as indoors…

I fully agree with you. I can’t stand those fitness coaches who always recommend plain, old boring running and exercises like that. Sometimes we need some excitement in our work outs to keep us motivated as well!
