I’m currently 3 weeks out from my next bodybuilding competition. I’m going to be competing in the Newfoundland Provincial Championships on November 19.
This is going to be my 13th bodybuilding competition… Lucky Number 13 LOL
Things are going pretty good, I’m pleased with my progress thus far. Over the past few months I’ve dropped over 20 pounds of bodyfat while actually gaining some lean mass.
Below are some pictures that I took tonight during my posing practice…

Lee, how easy would it be for you to maintain this level of conditioning year-round?
Brad
Since it is a contest condition, I would think it is not maintainable year round. He did say he lost 20lbs of fat so far. Probably be able to maintain quite lean but not in this shape though (otherwise it won’t be called a peak condition)

Rock solid as always Lee! Keep on setting the bar for all of us!

Lee…You are looking awesome…I do not want to criticize at all, but you need to deepen the lower part of your lats…maybe it’s just the pics or another week away will do it, but otherwise you look awesome…really awesome!

There is really no such a thing as “maintain” when it comes to bodybuilding. You are either moving forwards or falling backwards. There is no middle ground. So in order to “maintain” this shape you would have to do the same type of diet, training, etc. as it takes to get in this shape to begin with.
The key to staying in shape long term is to get right back on track when ever you screw up. So if you cheat on your diet, the key is to jump right back on track the very next meal. If you miss your training, cardio, etc. you need to jump right back in your very next workout.
Everyone is going to screw up occasionally (even the top pros cheat on their diets, miss workouts, etc.) but how fast you get back on track after those screw ups is going to determine your success or failure long term.

Well said Brad… 🙂

That’s cool, I know my physique has lots of flaws. And I’m constantly trying to improve. But I also realize that I’m not going to make huge improvements this year over my last contest due to some injuries. I tore my left bicep this past January so that’s hindered me from doing my normal heavy lifting that I like do to help build up the back.
But regardless of injuries, etc. I’m still going to make the best with what I’ve got and go for it.

Thanks… 😉

Yeah, I know what you mean. I’ll make a note of that.

Lee,
How many of your lifts have you substituted for Girdona’s this time around. Personally, I took the Fitness Model Workout and substituded the wide grip curls for bodydrags, the front squat I added the weights under my toes, and then ran one 3 week with the 4X12 Reps, and then 4 at 10-8-6-15 that Girdona advised. Gots some tightening up in new areas. But did you stay on your same plan, or did you substitute or revise anything based upon this material?

Great Guns! They look bigger than
your last contest! Go get um!

Hey Lee, looking great, Is the amount of weight you cut pre determined or do you just keep cutting until you like what you see ? What do you hope to weigh at the competition?
leehayward
I’ve posted up videos of my favorite Vince Gironda Exercises that I’ve added to my workouts. I only started reading his book a few weeks ago so I haven’t had time to really change a whole lot of things. But the few changes that I have made have been working good.
leehayward
The first time you compete you just take an educated guess as to how much weight you’ll need to lose in order to get cut. Generally, it’s more weight then most people think.
But after you’ve done a competition and have been through the whole process then you have a base line from which to judge your progress in the future.
I know from past shows that I look my best in the low 190 pound range. I’ve competed at heavier weight in the past (i.e. over 200 pounds) but never looked as hard and ripped as I should have.
While these pics look pretty good here, I need to be 10 pounds leaner in order to be at my best on stage.
