Muscle Specialization Workouts

Last week I was hanging out with Elliott Hulse from http://www.LeanHybridMuscle.net

Elliott is a professional strongman competitor and one hell of a strength and conditioning coach. He works with a lot of amateur and professional athletes who are looking for that extra edge, as well as average guys who just want to get in their best shape physical shape.

Now as a strength and conditioning coach Elliott focuses more on strength and athletic performance, not so much on muscle specialization workouts. Most of his training is based around working the body as a whole unit with lots of full body workouts.

Total body training is very effective. But when you have a stubborn lagging muscle group you need to do more than just “total body workouts” to target that specific muscle group and bring it up to par with the rest of your body.

Elliott asked me to help out one of his coaching students with some specialization tips for building wide muscular lats and that’s exactly what I cover in the video below…

Now I have a question for YOU…

What are some of your stubborn body parts that you would like help with developing?

You see to help Elliott out with his new Lean Hybrid Muscle Training System I’m going to put together a special “Muscle Specialization Guide” that will show you how to target your stubborn muscle groups and perform specific exercises to help bring them up to par with your stronger muscle groups.

So in the comments section below please let me know exactly what are your most stubborn muscle groups that you would like to get specialized workout programs for?

I’m sure everyone reading this has at least 1 body part that they’d like to improve, so I’m hoping for at least 100 comments to this blog post.

Than based on the feedback I get here I’m going to pick the most popular ones and create a complete “Muscle Specialization Training Guide” for those specific body parts.

So take a minute right now and post your comments below…

The hardest area for me is chest. I just can’t seem to bust through this plateau I’m at no matter what I try.

  • Robin

I have to say my chest/pecs are my most stubborn body part. I can bench quite a fair bit but my chest never ever seems to really “pop out”. I really wish I knew how I could get that wide awesome ripped chest look, you know even when you’re wearing a shirt other people can really see you have massive pecs.

    Anyway thats my opinion!

  • Kevin

I think my lower pecs and my shoulders

  • Robert

Hey, my calves and my biceps by far.

  • Jeff

Upper legs, front and back – probably because I don’t do enough with them. I’d like to work on flexibility first though. Is there anything for shins? I’ve never seen shins addressed.

  • francisco Molina

    shoulders, definitely

  • Anthony

I would have to say arms. They are ok but they never seem to get to the size that I want.

  • Erich

Chest was always the biggest challenge, but now seems to respond to drop sets, 36 sets of six different exercises. I just have to work them harder than any other group.

  • George

I work my arms pretty good, but lacking on biceps peak.

  • Chris

i will go with shoulders and forearms actually the whole arm but if i had to choose only one ding ding ding the winner would have to be shoulders

  • Upper Back is very hard for me to grow for some reason. I do dumbell and barbell rows and pull downs to no avail. Nothing helps.

  • I was blessed in the legs but my arms have issues with joints; I am not arthritic and I am only 20, but I notice that my elbows and wrists seem to be the faulty points, rather than any muscles specifically.

  • Brian

    My triceps and forearms

  • Moe S.

    Shoulders followed by chest…..

  • Dale

Two areas are tough for me shoulders and lats. And close behind is forearms.

  • Edmund

I would have to say ” My calves ” .. nothing can get these suckers to grow!

  • Dennis

Can’t seem to develop lower pecs

  • jim

lower chest and calves and forearms

  • Dylan

Arms and Chest… they really let down my whole physique and I can never seem to pack on any mass there

  • Spike

Calves are hard for me too.

  • Bret

For some unknown reason its my Traps myshoulders are nice and full but no matter how many shrugs i do my traps just dont want to come up

Lee my name is Joel Berger. I live in Liberty Tx. I will be 70 on 6-21-11. I work out 6 days a week mon-thurs chest and back-tus&fri legs and abs – wed-thurs arms, shoulders, grip and forearms. I walk 2 miles or use a glider a min of 3 times a week. I am 5’10’ and weigh 170 lbs – 32 inch waist, 16 1/2 arms , decent to good chest and back. My legs are extremely skinny. Any suggestions. P.S. I prepair all my meals and eat 5 to 6 times a day. Since I retired in 2003 and began my regiment my body has changed. Also my high blood pressure is gone, my acid reflux is gone and the glass I wore are gone. Thanks for all.

i would have to say my quads and hams. i’v really been doing alot of stiff db deads and reglar deads. i want to get em to 28’s to match my calfs tat are17 half.

  • Devin

Chest, and upper back for me

  • I have big biceps and triceps but then i have small forearms and my chest is stubburn, more specificly my upper chest.

    *Forearms
    *Chest

  • cameron

My biceps don’t grow as fast. My triceps r good, but they also don’t develop too quickly. And side delts lag a little bit.

  • sabree

my abs getting bigger when do sit up or work out on abs , why??

  • Sean

I’ve been going to physio for my lower back, almost back to 100% but
I need to strengthen my mid back to hold my spine from getting hurt again. The exercises I was given have now become endurance exercises. I need something to build muscle now. Also, chest is lagging compared to the rest of my body especially my upper back and shoulders.

  • Sean

My calves have always been the most difficult for me to develop- even when completing reps with 500 plus pounds. Also my upper chest, also known as the “rams head”.

  • Domenick

Yeah my arms are pretty weak compared to the rest of my body.

  • Rob

Forearms just never seem to change and their weakness affects a lot of my other workouts.

  • Kevin

chest, abs, upper and lower back

  • Mike Spearing

    Hi Lee
My most stubborn muscle group seems to be the forearms. I can add muscle to my biceps/triceps and strength to my grip. But when it comes to forearms, it takes a lot of work to increase the size, and then it doesn’t stay on for long.

  • Pete

    chest and shoulders

  • Hay first post eva , but, motivation must be the or is the hardest at times.
without this you wont even grab the plate

  • jack

traps and upper back i find hard to put any bulk on

  • Ed

My lats could use some help. I do tons of pullups, but can’t seem to add width to my back.

  • Adam

It would have to be my chest, and stomach, my chest does not seem to be getting bigger, and i cant seem to lose the little bit of fat from my abs

  • Olivo

Glutes- regardless of what I do, they are still as flat as pancakes.

  • Matt

I would have to say my Calves.. I feel my body is pretty much proportional, except for my calves.

  • Sean

    sabree,

If you’re using weight when you work your abs, they will get bigger.

  • Steve

Upper chest seems to be my toughest spot.

  • MARK

Triceps. If I work them with extra excercises ie close grip Benches, tricep extensions, etc. it seems like I overtrain them. So I bench, do press behind necks but do not ever do anything specific for the triceps. Otherwise all my lifts go down.

  • Liam

Definitely biceps. I’ve gotten substantially stronger and bigger everywhere, but feel my bi’s are lagging behind

  • Kyle

My Chest is too small for my frame and no matter how much I train it I am stuck using the same weights. My traps also need work but that is from lack of training

  • Tony

I would say my chest and forearms

  • faidon

    back.lower back and abs.

  • james

that part of the upper chest directly below the collar bone.. my god i cant fill it out

  • Geoff

Chest… that’s always been MY weakest link! Esp the inner portion!

  • Esteban

Chest and Chest and oh yes… Chest I think is the weakest 🙁 Also I can notice nice gains in all my others muscles but, Chest oh men chest is the hardest to gain something
