Real Muscle Building Motivation

Saturday night I had the opportunity to watch the 2010 Mr. Olympia competition live in Las Vegas. And as I’m sure you probably know by now, Jay Cutler took the title for the 4th time.

Jay Cutler Wins The 2010 Mr. Olympia!

If you are a bodybuilding fan, I’d highly recommend attending the Mr. Olympia competition and expo at least once. It’s a totally different experience to check out the show and feel the energy live. You just can’t capture that stuff on video or in pictures.

Every time I watch a bodybuilding show, be it a pro show or even a local amateur show, I’m always super motivated to kick my own training up to the next level.

If you’ve ever watched a bodybuilding show live than I’m sure you know exactly what I mean. And if you’ve never attended one before, than you should make a point to go and watch a local bodybuilding competition in your area.

One thing that’s very motivating about local bodybuilding shows is that you’ll see competitors from all levels and age brackets. Novices, experienced competitors, masters, etc. Chances are you’ll see someone who you can relate with and who inspires you with their dedication and progress.

Seeing regular everyday folks taking action and making great progress is always a huge motivator. It makes the whole idea of building a ripped muscular physique seem more real & achievable. And if you think it’s real and achievable, than you are more likely to take action and make things happen for yourself.

That’s basically how I got started on my own personal “muscle building journey”. I started watching local bodybuilding competitions and learned from the guys who were building ripped muscular physiques in the “Real World”.

If you’d like to get more information about competing in bodybuilding and actually see how these guys go about building lean, ripped, muscular stage ready bodies. Than I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of my book and DVD program “Your First Bodybuilding Competition”.

This is a complete program that takes you step by step through the entire competition process, starting 6 months out and leading right up to the day of the show.

Again you can check it out for yourself at: “Your First Bodybuilding Competition”.

This is nice lee, but i never want to be that big or veiny. I myself find it kind of disgusting if your toooooo big.

Also i was watching this youtube video, arnt most bodybuilding events filled with steroid junkies. I know your not one but isnt it going to be hard to compete with riodbuilders

  • Yes Lee, Going to a Mr. Olympia competition is something every amateur or pro bodybuilding must watch live before die!

I went with my wife to see the 2007 Mr. Olympia. There is lots of excitement and there is nothing like the live show. The only downfall is it is expensive and you need to pay a lot to get the good seats. It is amazing how freakin big those guys are. Jay Cutler won the title and Victor Martinez got 2nd, Dexter was 3rd and big bad Ronnie Coleman 4th and it was his last time competing so the crowd gave him a standing ovation for his influence on the sport and being one of the biggest and best Olympians of all time.

I just have to say about the 2010 Mr. Olympia that politics determined Jay’s victory just as it did for Ronnie several times. Don’t get me wrong Jay looked great but Phil looked awesome and his chest is not a weakness any more. Kai Green was funny to see on his head during his routine–he is 270 lbs.

  • Hey is that Lee Hayward in the first picture on the far right? oh wait its just Jay Cutler sorry:) Hey Lee just woundering is it possible I could get as big as the mr. olympia contestents without steroids or P.E.D.’s?

f*** that i would never pay hundreds of dollars to see f****** men on stage half naked in panties, there are plenty of other ways to spend ur money in vegas, like stripclubs first of all and asian escorts. HELLO PEOPLE, LOOK GOOD FOR WOMEN NOT OTHER MEN. I luv BB but i ain’t throwing my life away for it. PEACE!!!

Hehe you do a lot of travelling eh? Funny, I’m just sitting at Sea-Tac, waiting for the plane heading London to leave and I wish I could do some “work” right now.

  • I agree it’s expensive, but considering this is the biggest bodybuilding event in the world, it’s worth it.

  • Great post Lee,

I think that competitions are great place to not only showcase your physique but to also tell a great story if you have one.

Back when I competed in the FAME championships, there was a 65 year old man who it started to workout so that he could help his wife (recently in an accident) at tasks such as getting hurt in and out of bed and such.

He actually entered the competition to give himself motivation to reach his goal and the hold itself accountable. That’s what it is really all about and he inspired me as well.

Honestly NO, you can’t reach the highest levels of professional bodybuilding naturally. That’s just the reality of the sport. But you can definitely compete at local level and even regional level events naturally.

It’s a sport, some people like bodybuilding, some don’t. There are lots of sports out there that I wouldn’t bother going to watch myself, but I’m sure others would. To each their own, so if you like to blow your cash on Asian hookers than be my guest LOL

  • thanks Lee for answering my question. I’m glad there are still some people out there like you that don’t take the roid route. I like to earn everything I work for, not use that crap. Stay natural and keep working hard.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Boski

Hi Lee. I’m Boski of the Philippines and I’ve been following your website for about four years now. I started as a 5’9″ 198 pound fat weakling, became 178lbs, grew back to 198 (but with muscles, using creatine monohydrate and whey), but now I’m shrinking coz I haven’t been hitting the gym and eating properly for 2 months now. I’m 190lbs as of the moment. It’s not that I lost interest, I still like powerlifting/bodybuilding, but I don’t feel as inspired as before. Maybe this suggestion of yours can help. 🙂
