How To Make LOW CARB & LOW FAT French Fries!

One of my favorite “Cheat Foods” to eat is french fries.

Burger and fries, fish and chips, etc. French Fries are the staple side dish at the greasy spoon diner and fast food joints.

Now the way most places cook them they are deep fried, loaded with fat, and not very healthy. But I’ve got a nice tasty alternative to French Fries that are not only Low In Fat, but they are also Low In Carbs as well!

Just check out the video below for all the details…

Here’s the Low Carb / Low Fat French Fries cooking instructions…

This is a very simple low carb / low fat alternative to french fries and they taste delicious. All you need is some Turnip Sticks (aka: rutabaga).

Now if your local grocery store doesn’t sell these already cut up, you can use a whole turnip and cut them up yourself into chips or wedges.

1) Simply spray the a baking sheet with some PAM and spread the turnip fries out on the baking sheet. I like to cover the sheet with tin foil first to make clean up easier.

2) Add seasoning and spices to taste, and bake them for about 20 minutes at 400 degrees. The actual cooking time will vary depending on how thick the fries are cut.

3) Turn the fries over after 10 minutes in order to evenly cook both sides.

That’s it, tasty low fat, low carb french fries!

To give you an idea of the nutritional difference:
– Potatoes have 5.5 grams of carbs per ounce.
– Turnips only have 1.8 grams of carbs per ounce.

So you are only getting 1/3 of the carbs compared to making home made fries with potatoes. And because we are baking them, not frying them they are virtually fat free. All you are getting is the trace amounts of fat from the PAM spray.

Give this recipe a try, I’m sure you’ll enjoy these as a nice side dish to go along with any meal.

    hey lee,
i am a big fan, keep up a good work. You say they are fat free, i though healthy fats are good for you for U ? where do you fit the healthy fats into your diet when you on a fat loss regimen. Seems to me in the anabolic cook book its say to Go low carb , high protein and higher healthy fats when on fat loss diets. Also how do you feel about the theory on not mixing carbs and fats in the same meal? Keep up the good work .

    thanks

I personally supplement my diet with healthy fats like fish oil capsules. You can read more about this at: http://leehayward.getprograde.com/essential-fatty-acid.html

And if you are going to eat a meal you should combine either protein and carbs. Or protein and healthy fats. Try not to eat high carb and high fat in the same meal. I usually eat protein and carbs post workout. And protein and healthy fats during my other meals when training for fat loss.

It’s amazing how creative you can get when you think out side the box. There are lots of awesome meal ideas out there. I’ve gotten a lot from http://www.AnabolicCooking.net and then from reading that I’ve came up with a lot of my own as well.

    Good stuff.

Lee, your website looks like an ebook advertisement page now. It looked better before. You should change it back to the old format.

Well, it’s the thinks like the e-books and products that I offer which is what funds this website to begin with. Without them there would be no website. There is still lots of valuable content both paid and free content.

Has anyone tried to modify this recipe and make turnip chips? If turnips work as fries, I imagine they would work for making chips (baked). A low fat salt and vinegar turnip chip sounds like an amazing substitute for store bought potato chips.
