If you’ve ever been to the Arnold before than you know that the guys in the Animal Cage really live up to their name. They are friggen insane with the hardcore lifting they do. I filmed a bunch of different training and lifting videos from the Animal Cage that I’ll be posting over the next little while, but one that I wanted to share with you now is a killer deadlift for reps video, the guys are repping out with 535 on the bar!

I’ll be posting up more highlight videos from the 2011 Arnold Expo on my YouTube channel at: http://www.YouTube.com/leemhayward very soon.

  • Great video Lee! The deadlift is the king of all exercises. Those guys are frick’n animals. Did you see how huge the guy in the white shirt was that walked behind the second deadlifter.

Since the deadlift is so stressful on the nervous system and take so long to recover from…. can I just get away with leg presses with my feet placed high up and hyperextensions?

Sorry, but there is no substitute for the deadlift. I’d recommend that you include deadlifts in your workouts once a week. The fact that they are hard and stressful is also what makes them so effective for muscle growth.

Yeah, there were a lot of HUGE guys (and gals) at the Arnold Expo… I felt like a little boy compared to a lot of them 😉

I used to have deadlift on Monday, and Squat on Thursday week in week out. But I’ve gave it up because it hurts the inside of my lower back. I am still doing squat, but to replace deadlift with hyperextension. One thing to notice is that, since I gave up deadlift, my body shape changed, I use to look a bit chubby, but now I am looking more like a male model. I think there are pros and cons of deadlift, if your lower back muscle can take on the bash for long time, and you are looking to “Hulkening” your shape, then Deadlift is the best choice.

  • My new favorite exercise! I love squats too but lately I’ve been into deads big time and strength is increasing like crazy…pulled 315 at 5’8 and 148 pound bodyweight a couple weeks ago and I’m looking to get to 405 at 160 pounds or less in the next 6 months to a year. I’ll definitely download and follow your program Lee, thanks bro. By the way I put up a video of me doing the lift on my blog and would love for you to check it out and let me know if my form is good. Any tips would be appreciated bro. thanks again Lee

  • Woah amazing !
I have a question , I notice in the pics that the feet are seperated by a long space , is there different ways of doing it ?

Good job Brian, I checked out your video and they were solid deadlifts. They would all pass in a powerlifting meet. Keep it up!
