Bodybuilding Supplement Review Guide – Part 4 “Must Have” Supplements…

I’m continuing on with my very popular “Bodybuilding Supplement Review Guide” video series.

In this 4th video I’m going to focus on covering the essential and foundational supplements that you NEED to take for your overall health and fitness.

These are what I consider to be “must have” supplements that everyone should take, even if they are not into serious bodybuilding training.

Following a proper nutrition program and taking essential supplements like these is critical before moving on to the more “advanced” muscle building and fat burning supplements.

You need to lay the proper nutritional foundation first before the more advanced supplements can effectively do their job.

So check out the detailed video presentation below and then leave me a comment with your feedback. Also if have any supplements that you consider to be “must have” supplements, please let me know in the comments section below.

  • Norman

Hey Lee, great video. How much fish oil do you recommend per day. I am currently taking 900mg with breakfast.

  • zach

so the greens and fish oil seem to make since only if your diet is not high in these things already right? i eat tuna almost every day and i go through a pound of frozen vegetables in a couple days. i think i’m pretty good in both those, would it be beneficial to take these?

Zach make sure you do not eat too much of tuna, it contains mercury which could be bad for you. 1 a day is in my opinion too much but it might be fine. I would go for 1 per 2 days.

Good video, actually covered 2 more supplements im taking. Ill look for Greens and now the alst one is preworkout 😉

Lee, although I do like this video, I have one minor technical problem with your section about alkaline supplements. Having an alkaline body is not good. Having a neutral body is good. With an alkaline body, your nutrient breakdown and subsequent absorption of these nutrients is greatly reduced, due to the fact that acids are responsible for the breakdown of Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats. However, Lee, you are technically correct about the need for Alkaline supplements, due to the fact that having an acidic body is worse for your gains than an alkaline body. There can be severe corrosion of Protein synthesis and individual cells. So, my advice is to take these supplements (especially if you have a high protein diet) but DO NOT OVERDO IT. Because It can be terrible for muscular gains, and health in general.
(Not a major issue, but I am something of a chemistry nerd, so I had to clear up your minor discrepancy.)
Great video series, and keep them coming!

Great video lee! I didn’t know that u could take two multi-vitamins a day, I was always told by people that it was bad for your body to do that…. But most of those people that told me this didn’t even watch what they ate and were for the most part overweight lol 🙂

Yep, got a new desk and got a new 23 inch monitor as well…
Moving up in the world LOL

  • thanks lee great advise i like the idea of an alkline body.

Yeah, it’s a critical component that most bodybuilders just ignore. I know I ignored this myself in my early years of training. But now I’m a “vegetable junkie” and will eat veggies with every meal, even breakfast.

  • Lee what fish oil do you recomend ? its Carlsons a good one to take?

I generally just use the drug store brand of fish oils.

I know some people will get their panties in a knot when they here something like this, but when you actually compare the labels and nutritional info, very often the drug store brand is just as good as the more expensive brands.

Even if you have to take an extra capsule of the drug store brand to make up for the difference in nutritional value compared to the “name brand” you’ll still come out ahead money wise.

  • Hey Lee, great video. How much fish oil do you recommend per day. I am currently taking 900mg with breakfast.

I take 2000mg with my breakfast and with my dinner meals.

Tuna is actually a very low fat fish, that’s why it’s so dry. So supplementing with extra fish oils wouldn’t be a bad idea. And they are not that expensive.

With the greens I always have a container on hand, but if I eat veggies with every single meal then I will not take the greens. But if I don’t happen to eat as much veggies as I know I should have on a particular day then I’ll have a greens drink to make up for it.

I agree with you here, but in all honestly most people are never going to get “too alkaline” unless you are a new age raw food vegetarian from Southern California LOL

Most bodybuilders that I know of will have their cheat meals every week which are full of very acidic foods. Many of them will also hit the clubs and party it up occasionally and drink alcohol (again very acidic). Plus consuming a high protein diet so they need to take active measures to help balance things out with greens drinks and eating lots of veggies.

  • Lee, what green supplement do you recommend?

I’ve used several brands from Greens Plus, Green Defense, All Greens, and several others that I can’t even remember the name of off the top of my head. They all pretty much contained the same nutritional info. So it really doesn’t matter which brand you choose, just use one.

  • Steve Merrette

    Lee,

Great video as usual, you never disappoint us. I was curious, what are your thoughts on V8 juice? They advertise it as a way to supplement vagetable intake and I was interested to see if you had any input.

  • Steve Merrette

I have one minor technical problem with your section about alkaline supplements. Having an alkaline body is not good. Having a neutral body is good.

Dave, If you listen closely what Lee said was that the Alkaline in the vegetables OFFSETS the acid from the protien that most bodybuilders supplement with thus giving a net result of NEUTRALITY.

  • abhilash

    very good video

    Hey Lee,
I would like to whether one should have a full tea spoon or less while taking creatine

  • Hey Lee, I would like to whether one should have a full tea spoon or less while taking creatine

Most creatine powders will come with a scoop that you can use to measure out your creatine serving. But if you don’t have a scoop then go with a heaping teaspoonful (Note: that is a teaspoonful, NOT a tablespoonful).

  • Lorcan

    Hey Lee,

Fantastic video series. I’m currently starting Phase 2 of your Blast Your Biceps
program. Great results so far with Triceps and back. I take Creatine and Whey Protein. Is it essential that I take the supplements outlined in the above video.

    Thanks,
    Lorcan.

  • Josh

Great video, with alot of useful info, really highlights the good supplements to take. The first couple of videos I was really waiting for you to suggest the marks of protien that you reccomend, but this video is so well made, well done!
Really looking forward to boosting my vitamin and fatty acids in my diet and seeing the results.
    Good work.
