Eating raw egg whites? It looks good but I’m a bit skeptical. Goes against everything I’ve been brought up to believe about food safety.

These are NOT raw eggs, they are pasteurized. Which means they’ve been heated enough to kill any bacteria, but not heated enough to cook them.

    Jeff,

don’t make your own, get a pasteurized version from the grocery, perfectly safe.

  • Jeff

Thanks guys. That makes a lot more sense.

Guys, the odds of you getting anything from raw eggs are ssooooooooooooooooo crazily rare….. Ive been eating raw eggs now for 2 years and was really freaked the hell out at first…but i did research on it and now I can deal with it….Ive never gotten sick from it either !!! YO ADRIEN !!!! ( Lee uses something else thats in a box thats pre-pasturized though if you like )

  • Scott

I made this and it’s great! I did opt for the pasteurized product mainly to save time, but I agree with ace that raw eggs are incredibly safe. Stick with the regular variety which are scalded to sanitize the shells; the organic and farmer’s market kind often have a bit of chicken poop on them and that’s where the contamination comes from.

This is very close to the recipe for Italian gelato, so I tried freezing it in a casserole dish (you have to stir it about every half hour) and it makes an even better gelato than a drink!

    Mmmmmm. Thanks Lee

Just feel like chiming in once more to conversation..

Raw eggs are very safe as is, but even safer if you dip them in 160 degree water for 30 seconds, salmonella lives either on the outside or just inside the shell, and that will kill it; that and don’t use cracked ones; slippery or simey feeling eggs should likewise be tossed. Naturally, there is still a dash of risk here, factories will heat the it through to 160 to be sure, something that’s hard to do at home.

I worked in a bakery for years, I’ve cracked well over a 1/4 million eggs, you get to know ’em 🙂 But I still buy the pasteurized, it’s just easier and faster.

Just tried ur strawberry protein desert… Wow! This rocks!! Thankyou so much for the treat.

    Hey Lee,

If I’m allergic to eggs, is there any alternative you could suggest?

    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Carlos

I began using liquid egg whites after watching Lee’s recipe advise and I am now a solid believer…the taste is not what you expect and they blend in without tasting like eggs and give a ton of protein without the cholesterol…a super food ! I find it next to the milk in my grocery store packaged in a carton.

the only i don’t agree with is putting in blue stars glutamine.. ive used it in a protein shake using vanilla iso smooth and blue stars glutamine…and it taste like crap..maybe the strawberry improves the flavor but im a little scared of trying with the glutamine lol but Great video!

  • Lindsay

What if you are vegan? Alternative?

  • BAli

Could I put this in a bottle and bring it to work with me… drinking it a couple hours later

  • Greg

This is great, saves me $8. every time I go to Smoothie King!!

  • john

I use egg white international, totaly safe. I am a doctor and that is a product I use.
Yes, the shake will be good all day, “If you keep it cool”.
    Enuf Said…

  • Joe Newville: Hey Lee,If I’m allergic to eggs, is there any alternative you could suggest? Thanks,

You can use milk or yogurt instead of egg whites as the base. You could even use water but you’d have to add more protein powder and berries to make it thicker that’s all.

It’s optional, you really can’t taste the glutamine and it just adds a little extra bit of nutrition. But again, if you don’t want to use it that’s ok.

  • Lindsay: What if you are vegan? Alternative?

I guess you could just blend up strawberries and water 😉

You could use soy protein instead but I’m pretty sure it won’t taste as good as whey protein.

I’ll be honest I’m not a vegetarian and vegetarian cooking is not my specialty. But that’s just me, there are lots of other sites out there that are targeted just for vegetarians.

  • BAli: Could I put this in a bottle and bring it to work with me… drinking it a couple hours later

Sure, you can do that. It wouldn’t be a frozen dessert, but rather a strawberry protein drink.

Hey Lee, I was wanting to know a bit more about glutamine. I’m a student so when I buy products for muscle building I can only really afford the essentials. Is glutamine more of an optional bonus supplement, or should i make it a regular part of my diet? What is the advantage of taking it?

  • Rodolfo L

    Damn Lee…i’m taking one shake right know…!! it’s really good…!! thanks 🙂

Whey protein contains about 2-3 grams of glutamine per scoop. So it’s not a “must have” supplement. But if money isn’t a issue, glutamine a nice extra to take.

    ace,

I raise chickens and have thought about eating raw eggs, but man, they smell like those nasty chickens!

  • Hey Lee,

What about using the whole egg instead of just the egg whites? I know it will add protein, so is there any reason not to?

  • Where can I find the pasteurized eggs? Sorry i’m new to the raw egg thing, but after reading this post, I’m convinced.

  • derek

Lee, I LOVE this new dessert you introduced us to! I’ve been eating it everyday since you posted it on here man I’m addicted to it! But just so you know, I add a banana when I make this recipe, because it adds to the flavor and it makes it even thicker. Just like you, i’d rather eat this than drink it. But anyway, thanks for introducing us to this lee. You’re a genius! This is really an awesome snack. Take care.

Tastes fantastic. What suggestion do you have to pack it with some carbs for the overload phase?

  • Lee

Love this recipe! But, for some reason more then one serving of whey gives me gas! Is this just me? I drink it anyway but my wife does not like it too much!! LOL Just curious!!

  • Winston Holmes

does anyone know what the average time it takes to receive the lean mass package ?

If you are referring to the 21-Day Fast Mass Building Program the delivery is instant because the program is a digital download that you get immediate access to right after you place your order.

Go with a higher quality whey protein isolate. This has no lactose and shouldn’t cause any gas. The lower quality concentrates (i.e. the cheaper brands) usually contain lactose which can cause gas. That’s why I like Blue Star Iso-Smooth Whey so much, it doesn’t have any lactose at all.

  • Rick T

Man that is a great smoothie !! I don’t know what this added but I threw in some pineapple chunks.

  • You can play around with this and add all kinds of frozen fruit, frozen berries, and even frozen veggies to get a wide variety of vitamins and nutrients.

  • Garry Gillett

Research has shown that only a small percentage of protein in raw egg white is digested in the human body. If you dont cook it you may as well flush it down the toilet.

    Lindsay,

    Stop being vegan.

  • Hem

Add 2 shots whisky, give it a nice kick 🙂

I agree, that’s why I DO NOT use raw eggs.
The egg whites I’m using here are pasteurized. Which means they have been heated enough to kill any bacteria and be used by the body, but not heated enough to cook them solid.

    Tracy,

If you are gassy with the whey protein that you are drinking, try gold standard whey protein or nitrotech hardcore. We have the same problem but when I tried those two brands, my problem got resolved. Hope this helps.
