    Hi Lee.

    Been on you list for around 6 months now. I have a couple of your paid programs and enjoy all of the great free information you supply too.
    2 weeks from now I turn 49. Wow just one step from the big 50. Who woulda thunk it. My qroblem/question is, I am finding it really hard to maintain muscle and keep my body fat down. My diet is still the same and I my workout routine is still as aggressive. But i seem to be losing muscle definition and putting on flab around my mid section.
    Am I doing something wrong or is this just part of life and my time has come to become old?

    That’s quite normal, as you get older your metabolism slows down and it’s easier to gain bodyfat. Even with my own diet and training I’ve had to make some changes and incorporate more cardio and eat less carbs in order to maintain a lean physique compared to when I was younger.

I do find it interesting that even though Vince had great success with this program, he chose to bulk and cut for his next contest and swears by that technique now. He did this at the recommendation of his professional bodybuilder personal trainer.
    I even had a conversation with him on his blog about this subject and finally had to agree to disagree.
    What’s your take on Vince’s change of heart?

    The meaning of “Bulking Up” can vary depending on who you are talking too.

    Basically the 21-Day Fast Mass Building Program is comprised of doing mini bulking and cutting cycles back to back to capitalize on the body’s natural hormone response to changes in your eating.

    But what we don’t agree on is the old school bulk up programs where guys would basically eat what ever they could stuff in their faces in order to gain weight. Bulking for the sake of just gaining weight, with no emphasis on the quality of weight gained is a huge mistake.

    While the “dirty bulk” may temporarily work for a skinny ectomorph, most guys are just going to get sloppy fat using this approach.

    Mike,

    Mike, without knowing your actual diet it would be hard to diagnose your “problem”. I would say that if your carbs are coming from simple sugars and/or wheat/flour (from wheat)/bread/pasta/”whole-grains”, then to cut those out and get your carbohydrates from vegetables and sparingly from fruit. A diet higher in fat and protein is better for the human body. Feel free to ask me for research articles that prove this so that you know I’m not just pushing a specific kind of diet without scientific study to back it up.
